Short-Term Rehab/Swing Bed

Ferrell Hospital offers a solution for patients who need short-term rehabilitation or skilled nursing care after being hospitalized. Medicare calls this type of care a “swing bed,” but to us, it is just our family taking care of yours until it’s possible to return home.
A patient may remain in short-term rehab as long as there continues to be progress toward the goals per in insurance guidelines. The average stay at Ferrell is less than 15 days. Once goals are met or maximum recovery is achieved, a member of our team will help make preparations for discharge.

While in short-term rehab, care is individualized but may include:
  • Skilled nursing care
  • Physical, speech, and/or occupational therapy
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Activities
  • Ancillary services (lab, imaging, respiratory therapy, pharmacy)
An important key to rehab success is using a team approach for care and treatment. Members of our health care team work together to develop a specialized treatment plan just for you. We will address physical, cognitive and emotional needs. Team members vary for each patient, but typically include the following:
  • Physician
  • RN case manager
  • Occupational therapist
  • Physical therapist
  • Speech-language pathologist
  • Nurse
  • Respiratory therapist
  • Social worker
  • Dietary/nutritional counselor
