Depression is a type of mental illness where people feel sad, irritable, and/or withdrawn for more than two weeks. These feelings are so strong, they can disrupt normal routines and interfere with a person's ability to function.
Symptoms can include:
- Sadness
- Loss of interest or pleasure in activities you used to enjoy
- Change in weight (gaining or losing)
- Difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much
- Energy loss/feeling tired all the time
- Feelings of worthlessness
- Thoughts of death or suicide
